Enabling or Disabling Windows XP and 2000 automatic updates.

Issue:

Enabling or Disabling Windows XP and 2000 automatic updates.

Additional information:

Microsoft Windows XP and Windows 2000 automatic update feature enables a user to stay current with the latest updates for their computer. Computer Hope highly recommends users either enable this feature or visit the Microsoft update web page frequently to stay current. By keeping your computer up to date with the latest Microsoft Windows updates, it is less likely that your computer will experience errors and/or have the potential of being affected by any security risks.

Answers:

Windows XP users

  1. Click Start, Settings, and Control Panel.
  2. Open System
  3. Click the "Automatic Updates" tab.
  4. Check or Uncheck the option for "Keep my computer up to date."
  5. If you are enabling this feature by checking this box, select one of the three settings on how you wish to be notified for updates. We would recommend you select the second option, "Download the updates automatically and notify me when they are ready to be installed".
  6. Click Apply and Ok.

Windows 2000 users

  1. Click Start, Settings, and Control Panel.
  2. Open Automatic Updates
