| Also known as the Paperclip
or the
Office Assistant, Clippy is the
Microsoft paperclip animation included with Microsoft Office
95 to
help users with different tasks. On April 11, 2001,
Microsoft announced that it would remove Clippy from future releases
of Microsoft Office; however, after the release of Office XP, it was
found that Clippy (Office Assistant) was still present, just not installed by
default. To the right is an example of what the Office Assistant
looked like in Microsoft Office 2000. |

Users can enable / disable or show / hide the Microsoft
Office Assistant by clicking Help at the top of the window and then
"Show the Office Assistant" or "Hide the Office Assistant".
If the Office Assistant continues to appear
right-click the Office Assistant and
click Options. Within the Options window uncheck "Use the Office
Assistant" and click Ok.
