RAM

Short for Random Access Memory, RAM, also known as main memory or system memory, is a term commonly used to describe the memory within a computer. Unlike ROM, RAM requires power; if power is lost, all data is also lost. Below is an example image of a 512MB DIMM memory stick.

  • See our Memory Help page for additional help and information with computer memory.
  • See our Ram Diagram for a description of each portion of memory.
  • See document CH000149 for information about determining how much RAM is installed and available.
  • Additional information about installing computer hardware, including computer RAM, can be found on document CHADD.
