Safe Mode

A software mode that enables users who use Microsoft Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000, and XP to enter safely into Windows and correct any problems that may be preventing them from entering Normal mode. What makes Safe Mode different from normal mode is it uses Windows default drivers and settings, this helps users correct issues so they can get back into normal mode. Safe mode was first introduced in Microsoft Windows 95 and is available in all versions of Microsoft Windows except Microsoft Windows 3.x, Windows NT 3.0, and Windows NT 4.0.
  • Additional information about Safe Mode and how to enter it can be found in our CHSAFE document.
  • Information about why a computer always boots into Safe Mode can be found on document CH000597.
  • Information about why you may be unable to load into Safe Mode can be found on document CH000750.
