1. In general refers to any object that can be broken up into
multiple parts. For example a text,
string, or other
data could be broken up into
different segments that may or may not be related. 2. With
computer memory a memory segment or segmentation
is a portion of memory that has been restricted for use for a
current running process. Each of
these segments are stored in one or more of the segment
registers: CodeSegment (CS), DataSegment (DS),
StackSegment (SS), or ExtraSegment (ES/FS/GS).
| 3. A LCD segment is
a single bar that is used to help create a
character on a
LCD display. For example, a
clock may use a 7-segment LCD to display each of the
numbers as shown in the image to the right. In the
example the "8" number is utilizing all seven segments
and the "5" is using five segments. |

4. When referring to a network
a network segment or LAN segment is a portion of a
network that has been separated from other portions of a
network. The network is separated by using network devices such
as routers,
bridges, and/or
repeaters.
5. A portion of the hard disk
drive or partition is
sometimes referred to as a partition segment.
